The Handyperson Scheme was started in 1997 by the Community Care Project following an approach to MVSO by Malcolm Bradley who was eager to provide practical help to people less able
— Malcolm is still a volunteer!
The Aim of the scheme was:
“To assist the elderly, disabled and most disadvantaged members of our community to maintain a better quality of life in their own homes”.
Originally the much needed service covered only the Elgin and Burgsea area until a dedicated worker was funded and employed to expand the service from Forres to Cullen.
In November 2004 the project became an independent charity, was renamed Community First and steps were taken to provide the ever popular service across Moray.
Coinciding with a move to Victoria House in 2010, the name was changed to Moray HandyPerson Services (MHPS) to better reﬂect the services being provided.
